Cameron Foden, one of the top 40 best dressed men in SA
So I just found out this morning, that our dear friend, and regular WITW contributor, Cameron Foden, was voted as one of South Africa’s best dressed men. No suprise… :)

Yay, after somewhat of a hiatus, David West is relaunching his own label again.
Missibaba (the fantastic leather goods brand) is having a trunk sale in JHB on Friday the 19th and Saturday the 20th of June.
Sound exciting…especially because all you Joburgers are the first that get to see and by the new Gaucho bag (which I haven’t seen yet, but I’m sure is beautiful!)
A week or so ago, I was invited to a fashion event, at an unknown address in Bo-kaap, from an organisation / agency / group called Flance and to tell you the truth I was a little skeptical. It all seemed a little vague…I didn’t know whether to expect a fashion show, an exhibition or a really cool concept thingy that no one understands but you’re certain is very hip.
To say I was mistaken in my judgments is an understatement.
A couple of weeks ago we showcased a solo collection of menswear by Capetonian designer Cameron Foden.
Where to from here, is an exhibition of menswear as designed by emerging fashion designers; Blasoen by Willem Jacques Minnaar, Christopher Strong, Åugus, Timothy Wang and Cameron Foden.
This collection, the first solo for the self-taught designer, entitled the Samson Syndrome, takes inspiration from exploitation, manipulation and hypocrisy, with a specific interest in Israeli and US foreign policy ‘67 to present.
Here are some images of PREsies, curated by Dirk de Waal, which opened last week.
The online catalogue will be out soon, should you wish to buy the whole lot ;)
cheers
Liam

Its that time of the year again!
Hope to see you all supporting local design at NUMBER THREE, next week Friday.
I’m really sorry for not having posted anything this last week. The truth is, the last week has been a mad rush to finish AGTER ELKE MAN, ‘n gay magazine I’ve started with my friend Timmy Wang.
The annual Number Events by WITW / Design Studio, were created to provide platforms for young and emerging South African designers. This years event NUMBER THREE, is being held on the Friday the 10th of October.
The new WITW / Design Studio showroom at 11 Hope Street will be opened on the 26th of June with the launch show, T- by Dokter, Misses and Friends.
Dokter and Misses are at it again!
Join them for their T-Shirt exhibition tomorrow evening at 44 Stanley in Johannesburg. WITW / Design Studio is going to be showing a range of shirts as well.
Don’t fret Capetonians…the show will be coming down to Cape Town as well and we will be hosting it !
Xandre Kriel, a designer we represent, was recently commissioned by fashion designer Richard de Jager, to make several pairs of wooden shoes for an upcoming theater production.
Dokter and Misses is open! and the images that Adriaan and Katy sent me look beautiful! If you’re in Joburg, you definatley have to go down and check it out…
The design duo behind Dokter and Misses (Adriaan Hugo and Katy Taplin) have joined forces with designer Joe Paine in opening their flagship store of the same name at 44 Stanley, Milpark Johannesburg. Stocking a diverse range of locally designed products from furniture, clothing, jewellery and accessories, packaging, ceramics and garden pots by Adriaan Hugo, Dokter and Misses, me and joe, Joe, Margaret Hugo and Smitten. The Dokter and Misses store is Johannesburg’s exclusive outlet for hot new shoes, Paez, from Buenos Aires.
Last night was the opening of the Dandy Savant & White Noise S/S collections at the Whatiftheworld / Project Room. Both designers put their work (as seen at Number Two) up on display for guests to try on and buy. The show will be open for the next couple of weeks, and viewing is by appointment only.

As per usual Richard de Jager wowed the crowds with this avant garde knit wear label Pwhoa. The under the sea inspired collection, was an explosion of ruffled and rolled pieces of knitwear. I thought the urchin like heels were pretty cool…
I think Petro Steyn is a genius…her collection for Number Two was the most amazing thing!! Her entire collection was made out of neoprene. Different shards of it cut and glued into place to create the most bizarre shapes and forms. This collection was called Zonkey (something in between a zebra and a donkey). Her animal like masks and body suits created quite a stir on the catwalk…
For Number Two we were privileged to have Suzaan Heyns from Abraham + Louisa fly in specially for the show. As usual her work was amazing. Her collection of womens wear, plays on the contrasts of structured versus soft, masculine versus feminine…With slicked back hair, red lips and mens shoes, the models had an amazing presence on the catwalk.
We hope to have her back for Number Three…
its the week of “weeks”. its London fashion week, London design week, and London architectural week….
i went to a few shows and saw some great designers, funny audiences, lovely spaces, and of course great parties!
Peter Jesen played with John Waters characters.
Eley Kishimoto had fabulous patterns layered on top of each other.
Gareth Pugh collections experiment with volume, space and unlikely fabrics scissored into bold, monochromatic patchworks and optical frenzies.
Our friend Topaz Leung, currently based in London, has recently sent us some images she took, that are going to be included in Lime Magazine next month. Enjoy!
