Blasoen at Sanlam Fashion Week

Blasoen by Willem Jacques Minnaar recently showed at the Winter Collection shows at Sanlam fashion week in JHB.

Although I wasn’t there, Willem is my housemate and studiomate, so I feel pretty well versed on his collection. As I’m sure you can imagine, when it’s a week before your show and the nerves have started to set in, it’s not to easy to talk about anything other than fashion.

This new Winter collection, was based on the design, cut and silhouette of pajamas. So most of the colours were muted, and the garments layered to create the type of outfit that wouldn’t be amiss on a guy running down to the corner shop to buy milk first thing in the morning.

Union suit pajamas + thrown on smart woolen jacket = pretty cool outfit, or sleeping shirt + dress pants that were lying next to your bed = acceptable to be seen buying milk at 7/11 at the crack of dawn.

I think the concept is really interesting, but in a very wearable kinda way. So wearable in fact, I think I might order the lot.

My only criticism… is that I feel one or two of the models were perhaps the incorrect choices. But in a group show situation (3 other labels showed in the same slot), models are provided for the designers by the organisers of fashion week, so I suppose there’s little control.

Cheers
Liam
