I’d like to say that the reason I haven’t blogged in ages, is because we were so busy with the design and installation of Superette, but I won’t, because it isn’t true. The process of putting the cafe together (a new initiative by WITW) was so organic and easy that I wish that all my jobs were as fun as this!
Superette was borne out of need. There are soo many artists, designers and business people in the Salt River area, that either need to go back into town for lunch everyday, or (horror) get a pie from the Caltex, that it seemed silly not to open a small eatery. It’s also great, because it serves as a ‘during the week’ pick up spot for products that you could only normally get on Saturdays at the Neighbourgoods Market.
The building which was built in 1902, used to be home to a mom and pop corner shop called Runwell superette, and although it was sad to see the cute hand painted indoor signage go, hopefully keeping the name the same (well kind of) is an homage enough.
All the furniture inside is vintage or from local designers and craftsman. And coupled with food that is fresh / organic and seasonal makes Superette a great place to be.
Try the sandwiches!
